History

American National Bank of Texas is one of the oldest independently-owned banks in Texas – established in 1875.
Our history began by identifying a need and serving the communities that are important to us.

The Texas & Pacific Railroad was part of the community of Terrell in the late 1800's. The T&P was the key to the growth and stability in Terrell and the surrounding towns and counties.

On November 22, 1875, Terrell’s first bank, and the predecessor of American National Bank of Texas opened its doors for business. With no other banks in the area, the bank was a welcome addition and it prospered. The prime modes of transportation and communication were the stagecoach, the covered wagon and the horse. It was a simple beginning with a solid foundation.

In 1876, the bank moved to a new headquarters in the Star Block and remained there until 1882 when a disastrous fire threatened the bank.

Fortunately, a concrete and steel vault protected the records and securities and the bank was open for business the next day. The bank relocated to Moore Avenue, in a brick building on the land where American National Bank of Texas is located today.

We have grown significantly since 1875 and currently have offices throughout northeast Texas in Collin, Dallas, Hunt, Kaufman, Rockwall, Johnson, Tarrant and Van Zandt Counties.

With assets over $1.5 billion, the bank continues to explore the best communities, the best products and services, and the best delivery systems to meet the needs of our customers today and tomorrow.
